HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY
The following guidelines were initiated May 25, 2020, and are mandatory:
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR MY LASH APPOINTMENT?
HOW LONG WILL MY LASH EXTENSIONS LAST, AND HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF THEM?
Typically the extensions will stay on for 4-6 weeks, shedding with your own natural lash, if you are following proper after-care. The average person loses about 20% of their natural lashes every 2 weeks, being replaced with new younger lashes. You will lose 1 or more of your natural lashes every single day. This is totally normal and natural.
A touch-up or fill 2 weeks after your initial full set is recommended, then a fill every 21 days after that, to keep your lashes looking full and fluffy (at least 50% of your extensions must be on to qualify as a fill appointment).
Having lash extensions does require a bit of maintenance (ie daily brushing and using a lash shampoo AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY). If you aren’t properly caring for them, they won’t last as long as they should. Here are some things to keep in mind while having lash extensions:
WEARING MASCARA/WATERPROOF MAKEUP
One of the many benefits of extensions is not having to wear mascara. Mascara will break down the bond of glue causing the extension to prematurely fall off. If you insist on still wearing mascara, make sure to apply it only to the middle of the lash and down to the tip. Waterproof mascara is even harder to remove. You can end up tugging the extension out of place when trying to remove it.
OILY SKIN OR OVERLY ACTIVE OIL GLANDS
Having oily skin can be an annoying problem to deal with. It also can cause problems for lash extensions, breaking down the adhesive bond. In extreme cases of oily skin, lash extensions might not even stick at all.
PICKING OR RUBBING THE EXTENSION
Sometimes, you just can’t prevent yourself from rubbing your eyes, but excessive rubbing or picking at the extension can loosen the adhesive and cause the extension to fall. This can also lead to the loss of your natural lashes too. If your own lashes are falling out, there won’t be enough natural lashes to apply the extension to – so do not rub or pick at your lashes.
SLEEPING
All of us have different sleeping positions that make us the most comfortable at night, but those who sleep on their stomachs or face down in the pillow will have issues with their lash extensions popping off.. If you find you are losing extensions on one eye more than the other, chances are, that's your dominant sleep side.
LASH EXTENSION CARE
While you may be hesitant to touch your extensions, not cleaning your lash-line can invite infection and inflammation in the hair follicle, which can lead to painful styes or blepharitis. To extend the life of your lash extensions - use Lush Lash Shampoo at least 3 times per week; a sealant to coat your lashes to help repel oil and dirt that break down the adhesive bond; and brush your lashes with a spoolie, especially after showering or washing your face. Use gentle downward strokes when cleansing and brushing, and remember to clean your spoolie when you’re done. Daily maintenance will extend the wear of your extensions, saving you money on fills.
USING THE WRONG SKINCARE PRODUCTS
Using oil-based skincare products is a big no-no! Like oily skin, these products can break down the adhesive used to hold the extension. Products like EyEnvy, Revive7, or Latisse are fantastic products to stimulate new lash growth. Since they speed up the growth cycle of your natural lashes, you may require a fill sooner than you normally would if you didn’t use a lash stimulator. Oil free facial cleanser, lash and brow serum, lash shampoo, and lash protector and nourishing revitalizer products are available for purchase in the lounge
MEDICATIONS/VITAMINS
Thyroid medications can change the environment of the lash area, making natural lashes oilier, dryer, or more brittle. Please be aware that if you are taking this medication, your lashes may respond differently. If you take vitamins that encourage or stimulate hair growth, your lashes may shed faster. There also may be other medications that change your body’s chemistry and make lash extensions not stick as great.
NATURAL LASH SHEDDING
This cycle is individual, and can change with your health, and the seasons (humans and animals shed hair in Spring and Fall), which can affect your lashes quite dramatically. I do not extend baby lashes or new growth (anagen) only catagen and telogen phase lashes.
The following guidelines were initiated May 25, 2020, and are mandatory:
- RESCHEDULE your appointment if experiencing ANY SYMPTOMS, feel unwell, or have been around anyone else who is unwell or tested positive for COVID-19
- WEAR A FACE MASK UPON ENTERING BUILDING, AND FOR DURATION OF APPOINTMENT.
- USE HAND SANITIZER (ALCOHOL-BASED)
- LIMIT TALKING DURING YOUR TREATMENT
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR MY LASH APPOINTMENT?
- Bring earbuds to listen to your favorite music, podcast or book, if you don't care to listen to soothing spa music usually played in the lounge.
- Do not wear eyeshadow, eyeliner or mascara to your appointment. Stop using waterproof eye makeup at least 2 days before your appointment.
- Do not wear contact lenses to your appointment.
- Limit your caffeine intake prior to your appointment as it makes eyes flutter which slows down the application process.
- Be sure to have your childcare setup. It is my policy not to have any children in the lounge as there will be no one to babysit during your appointment.
- Make sure to get to your appointment on time. Allow a few extra minutes to complete the Consent form if you are a new client.
